Seán Ó Gadhra, File. XII. 15. Marbhna dhon Athair Grioghóir Maighniallus an chéad earra eile de chuid Sheáin Uí Ghadhra i leabhar Ruaidhrí Mhic Dhiarmada. Tá so ar fagháil ar leathanach a 55 ann. Aiste Deibhidhe is eadh, acht ní'l an mhéidireacht go cruinn aige i gcomhnuidhe. Sa chéad leath-cheathramhain féin ní'l comhar- dadh slán idir “cláire” agus “taoighbhéime,” de bhrígh nach d'aon bhuidhin i measc na gconson “r” agus “m.” MARBHNA AN TSAGAIRT RIAGHALTA FHOGHLUMTHA GRIOGHÓIR MAIGH- MHALLUS. Dursan dúinn díth na cléire, dan Bhanbha is tuar toighbhéime; gur damhna mór chiaigh don druing gan liaigh an anmhuin againn.
Níor chás dúinn geimhiol na nGall, fá'n gcorp gur chlis an t-anam; ó na mbeith fá bhaoghal dó, bheith dhá shaoghal i n-iarghnó. Úird crábhaidh dá gcur a gcúil, do scrúdadh sailm 's an Scrioptúir; ag súd na leathchuin gan locht, dár rún diamhair na diadhacht Mairidh fós fiorchú abhfus, móradh na naomh Maighniallus; fiallach chuir foghluim i gcóir, an lóchrauinn grianmhar Grioghóir. Srotha fíoraon, tobar tréan, orthóir fromhtha na n-úr-scéal gríobh geanmnach nach bris móid; níor dhearmuid cnis don chanóin. Srotha meala is soitheach óir fuaim a shéise sa tseanmhóir; dá lámhadh ag labhairt gan on malairt na dála is dursan d-u-r-s-a-n. An Rann. GLUAIS. líne 1. dursan, grief, pity 2. tuar toighbhéime(toibhéime), an omen of loss, blemish. 3. Damhna, a great cause of sorrow. 4. An anmhuin, thus R.McD. It may be i n-a anmhuin, “remaining,” or a n-anmann, “of their souls,” Damhna mhur chiaigh, MS. 5. Geimhiol, fetters. 6. Gur chlis, “till the soul failed (left) the body.” 7. “For their being through danger on his ac- count.” 8. Iarghnó, distress, lament. 9. A gcúil, ar gcúl, backwards: or i gcúil, in a corner, difficulty. 10. This line qualifies úird crábhaidh. 11. liathchuin, liath-chuin (?) Fiorchú, a hero, fear- chú, perhaps fíor-chú. 14. Móradh, majesty. 15. Fiallach for fialach, a generous person. 16. Lóchrainn, metric for lochrann, a torch, light. 17. Fíraon, the faithful. Saoraon(?) MS. 18. Orthóír, a gilder, refiner. 19. Follus focal, probably for forus focal, know- ledge of the meaning of words. Amhra, goodly, excellent. 30. Foirthche, foirbhthe (?), experienced, perfected. 32. Soitic, an Ghaedhilg. 34. Dá lámhadh, in all he tried, dared. Gan on, without fault, blemish. 36. Malairt na dála, a different set of circum- stances. Mailair, MS. 37. Seanmóntuidhe seolta, an exact preacher. 38. Dileóir, a lover of wordly goods. 39. Órtha, gilded, polished. 40. Fileóir, a lover, protagonist. Pól, Paul; this is probably the same as the word polla, a prop, support, which occurs so frequently in Southern poetry.
