Irish Proverbs, &c. From Camp, Tralee: — Imthigheann gach maith lé mion-chaitheamh. Bailigheann brob beart. An té bhidheann amuigh, fuarann a chuid. Ní h-é lá na gaoithe lá na sgolb. An té nach dtabharfaidh aire do'n sgillinge, ní bheidh an sgillinge aige. Is raimhre fuil ioná uisge. Innis domhsa, innis do'n chloich é; innis d'aonneach eile, innis do'n bhóthar é. Ins an tseanaimsir do dheuntaoi pósadh bréige ioir pháisdibh mar so; do chuireadh duine a lámh ar cheann an gharsúin bhig agus annsin ar cheann an ghearrchaile, ag rádh:— “Píosa, pósadh; práitín rósta, Sgilléidín uisge, tá sibh pósta.” From Skibbereen: — Is fearr leis troigh ar a thoil ioná bann-láimhe ar a leas. Banl = measure of two feet. Bainne na bó sopaighthe, sopaigh = to coax with a wisp of hay. Sé bainne na bó sopaighthe a ghnó - said of a child coaxed to work. An náire is mó rug riamh Fionn, rud in a bheul a's gan aon nidh in a láimh. Drannadh mad- raidh nó gáire Sagsannaigh. Is mairg a báidhtear lé linn an anatha ( = anfa), mar tagann an ghrian i ndiaidh na fearthainne. Ní tháinig (= tháinic, so chunna mí in Scotch Gaelic = chonnaic) an tráigh 's an timcheall lé h-aenneach riamh. No one could ever do (= attend to) the strand ( = work on the strand, cladóireacht in Connacht) and the round (visit at a holy well, etc.,) at the same time. Is eusguidhe neoin ioná maidin. Ní fuacht go h-earrach. Galar gan náire grádh nó tart. Ní thagann eug gan adhbhar. Súil lé cúiteach lomas an cearrbhach. 'Tis the hope of satisfaction that ruins the gam- bler. Is fusaide an donus orm féin é bheith ar mo chomhursain. Is fadshaoghalach iad lucht múchta (múchadh = asthma). Seal gearr súgach. Ní tháinic gorta lé tirmeas ariamh.
