Used by the Fishermen of Clew Bay.



cadóg, a haddock
colamóir, a hake
balach, a gunner
cor, a sand eel
cor ghobach, a fish of the sand eel kind, with a bill
about 6 inches long



bolagóg,
(= bolgóg?) a pollock(small)
crúdán, a gurnet.
glasóg, called in English glassing.
longa, a ling
mongach, a coal fish, ruacán, a cockle
trosg, a cod fish, sliogán dubh, a mussel
bodach, a codling. fíochóg (= faochóg), periwinkle
ronnach, a mackerel, rib rúnáin, a shrimp
madadh garbh, a dog fish, cluaisín, a kind of shell-fish
mulrúis, large pollock, fíochóg chorn, a large periwinkle
muc ruadh, bream
eascoin, eel
ruc, slate
lannach, a mullet
bolamán, horse mackerel
fíogach, penfish
leith, plaice
teanga chait, sole
crúbóg, a large crab
portán, a small crab
muc mhara, a porpoise
glasán, a fish much like a salmon, but of a dark colour,
I have never heard an English name for it.
