NA BEARTA CRUADHA

(a) Ní fuláir an capall a scaoileadh, the horse
must be let loose.
Ní fuláir gan baint leo, they must, on no ac-
count, be meddled with.

(b) Ní foláir dom tú thionnlacan a-bhaile, I must
(of necessity) convey you home (Séadna,
p. 14.)
Ní foláir duit aontigheas do thabhairt …
do, you will have to let him live with you
(Séadna, p. 15).

(c) Agus nach foláir leat anois pas beag magaidh
a dhéanamh fúm-sa, and that you will have your
little joke now at my expense (Séadna, 218).
Ní fuláir liom gur nár leis an racalach, I
cannot conceive otherwise than that the tor-
mentor thinks it a shame.

(d) Ní foláir nó ní hé seo an chéad uair, this can-
not possibly be the first time (Séadna, 13).
Ní foláir nó is beag dá choinne a bhí agat, it
must be that you little expected (Séadna, 284.)
Nár bh'fholáir nó bhí buairt mhí-cuíbhsach éigin
air, that there must have been some untoward
trouble on him; i.e, that it could not have
been otherwise (Séadna 243).
