ANECDOTA FROM IRISH MSS.

MS. Egerton 146, in the handwriting of
Maurice O'Gorman and Edward O'Reilly.

Oraid don leightheoir.
Ó baodhasa .cc.

A fir leaghtha an leabhráin bhig,*
féach an tobar ó ttáinig:
uille a tarbha iona thaidhbhsi,
buime h'anma an obair si.

An cisde trer cheannaig fer
an ferann ionnar foilgheadh —
ag so an fearann ionna bhfuil,
neamhfhonn do nocha dlighear.

O reader of this little book,
Behold the well from which it sprang:
Its use is greater than appears,
This work is thy soul's nurse.

The treasure for whose sake a man has
bought
The land in which it was concealed —
(Here is the land wherein it is),
He should not be indifferent to it.
